All of the 332 persons who took the examination under these conditions demonstrated satisfactorily the clinical competence required of dentists performing the same procedures This indicates that skilled laboratory technicians with minimal additional training can competently provide denture care. Regarding the psychological aspects of providing denture care, consumer satisfaction with the denturists' services would appear to amply demonstrate that formal education in patient behavior and management is not a prerequisite to competence. This is particularly suggested by some consumer preference for denturists as indicated by patronage when price is not a factor, and occasionally subsequent to dissatisfaction with the services of one or more dentists.
