Denturism specifically does not appear to bear any relationship to the incidence of oral cancer. In Alberta where denturism has been legal since 1961, there has been no increase in the rate' of oral cancer over the succeeding 15 years. Tables 29 and 30 set out the number of oral cancer reported each year, compared to other cancers and by age, for the years 1955 to 1975. Of course, as discussed elsewhere, there is no scientific evidence of even a correlation between oral cancer and the wearing of dentures. The frequency with which denturists refer patients who have suspicious conditions is not known, but denturists report such referrals and dentists report receiving some.
