In Alberta, the provincial government finances all dental services required by persons over age 65, and the elderly may choose to obtain needed services from either a dentist or a denturist. This program began in the fiscal year 1974. In that year, denturists provided 66.4% of the dentures provided pursuant to the program. Denturists provided 51.7% of the dentures in fiscal 1975, and 54.4% in fiscal 1976. As the elderly have no price incentive to patronize denturists, it sems likely that denturists accountfor an even larger portion of unsubsidized sales.
