Until The late 1950's, at least 10 states permitted dental laboratories to perform denture repairs directly for consumers. Occasionally, changes in applicable laws have occurred in inconsistent directions. For example, prior to 1955 in the state of Oregon, non-dentists were prohibited from taking impressions for dentures, adjusting dentures, and advertising directly to the public, and were required to have work authorizations for all appliances constructed. However, in 1955, each of these statutory provisions were repealed. The prohibition on taking impressions provisions was reenacted in 1957. The remaining provisions were not reinstituted until 1963. These restrictions were again eliminated by the voters in Oregon who recently passed a referendum legalizing denturism. |
